The other step is to admit to God, to yourself, and to other human beings the exact nature of your wrongs. You cannot attain to this step if you do not believe in God. You will need to accept that God is listening to your story with grace and forgiving you. He is waiting to show compassion to you.
The sixth step involves being ready to let God address the defects of your character. These defects are only removed if you are willing to confess them and have God remove them.
You have shortcomings which made your past, and you have to ask God to remove them. This is an act of humility. The alcoholic cannot recover unless he accepts the gift of humility.
You will now need to make a list that will help you go making amends with all the people you have harmed. You need to be part of the list that you have harmed and seek amends with.
Take a step to make direct amends to the people you have harmed. In this step, care should be taken to ensure no one gets hurt in the process.
After this, you need to assess yourself continually and promptly admit when wrong.
